Description

Possibly written by Sander Rang? Cf. Brit. Mus. Cat. (Nat. hist.), v. 4, p. 1644. However, the work is entered under title in NUC Pre-1956, v. 25, p. 152. No evidence for authorship was found in the work itself

Most of the plates also appeared in the 1802 ed. of Bosc's Histoire naturelle des coquilles. Cf. C. Nissen, Zoologische Buchillustration, no. 3285

"De l'imprimerie de Crapelet" --Colophon, p. 16

Plates drawn by Deseve and engraved by a number of different engravers, among them Voyez, J. Maillet, and Tardieu (veuve)

Publisher's advertisement, "Note des différens Atlas d'histoire naturelle qui se vendent séparément chez le même libraire ...", appears on verso of half-title

Most of the plates have numbers (i.e. press figures?) in the lower right corner of the impression, in addition to the plate numbering at the top right corner
